Welcome to Athenaeum Marie
Hi! I’m Marie. I’m a social worker practicing as a family therapist who loves to read, write, plan, and share all of those things with others!
I’ve decided to put all of these things together in a blog where I will be sharing book reviews, mental health information, as well as planning and wellness tips. I’m sure this seems like a lot of random information, so allow me to explain a little bit…
My dream of being a social worker started when I was a teenager. A little bit of an odd dream, I’ll admit. But I’ve always been interested in helping people both emotionally and practically - by supporting them to connect with information and resources in a meaningful way. I’m hoping to continue this goal here on this blog! Here are some of the ways I’m hoping to do that:
Book Reviews (especially books on mental health and trauma)
Mental Health Information (practical information about mental health & how you can apply it to your life)
Organization & Planning (bullet journaling, routines, and personal planning)
As I navigate these topics, I’m really looking forward to hearing from you! Comments on my posts will be open so that you can share your input or resources and I’m always looking for suggestions for future topics to cover and books to read! You can make suggestions here.
While you’re navigating the blog, you can use the categories above (book reviews, mental health, and organization & planning) to explore and filter what you might be interested in. I also have tags for content based on who I think it might be most helpful for (professionals, parents & families, or for yourself). These are not exclusive! My goal is to share information that’s helpful for everyone, but these might help if you’re looking for specific information (or if there’s certain content you don’t want to see).
I’m excited to continue both learning and sharing knowledge, but also want to be mindful of my limitations. As you read my blog, you’ll be hearing from my perspective as someone with a Bachelor’s in psychology and sociology and a Master’s in social work. You’ll also be hearing from me as a Chicana, first-generation college student, and someone who is working to practice anti-racism and decolonization in the work that I do. This does not make me an expert in these areas, and I am going to do my best to provide information where I have knowledge and experience and to defer to others in areas where I don’t.
Last, but certainly not least, I’m so glad that you’re here! Thank you for taking the time to be here, to read this post, to be on my blog. It really means the world to me and I hope that some thing here is useful and meaningful to you.
- Marie
